Why we recommend REC panels

REC Group, founded in 1996, is a global leader in the solar energy industry, dedicated to providing consumers with clean and affordable solar power solutions. With a strong emphasis on quality, innovation, and sustainability, REC manufactures solar materials and panels with a low carbon footprint. Their headquarters in Norway and operational headquarters in Singapore reflect their international presence.

What sets REC apart is their commitment to not only producing top-quality products but also ensuring their installations meet the highest standards. They have established the REC Certified Solar Professional Program, which equips installers with the expertise and best practices required to install REC panels. This program assures customers that in addition to receiving high-quality panels, they will also benefit from a high-quality installation.

The installer certification program is just one example of REC’s initiatives to promote the expansion of solar energy and empower households and businesses with renewable power options. By choosing REC solar panels, customers can trust in the brand’s reputation for excellence and contribute to a greener future.

History

REC Solar was founded in 1996 in Norway as Renewable Energy Corporation. Initially, the company focused on producing silicon materials for the electronics industry. In 2002, REC Solar expanded its operations into the solar energy sector and began manufacturing polysilicon solar panels and polysilicon cells for other manufacturers.

Over the years, the company grew rapidly and has become a well-known player in the solar industry. In Australia, REC panels have been on roofs for over 15 years.

Technology

REC Solar is known for its advanced solar panel technology. They have developed various innovative features to enhance the performance and efficiency of their panels. One of their notable pioneering technologies is the TwinPeak series, which utilises half-cut cells and a split junction box design to increase power output and improve performance in shaded conditions. REC Solar also incorporates PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) technology, which boosts energy capture by adding a reflective layer at the rear side of the cell.

PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell)

REC Solar has also incorporated PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) technology in its panels. This technology adds a reflective layer to the rear side of the solar cell, enabling improved light absorption and higher energy conversion efficiency. This technology was developed by the University of NSW and patented.

Heterojunction Technology (HJT)

More recently, the REC Alpha series has utilised the Heterojunction technology (HJT).  This innovative technology combines two semiconductor materials to enhance solar cell performance. It involves a thin layer of amorphous silicon deposited on both sides of a crystalline silicon wafer, creating a more efficient cell structure.

REC HJT panels offer improved efficiency, low-temperature coefficient, meaning better operation in hot weather. They also perform better in low-light conditions. The Alpha Black has an appealing appearance. REC HJT is advancing solar energy with its higher efficiencies and performance than conventional crystalline silicon cells.

Manufacturing

REC Solar operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Singapore, which serves as its primary solar panel production site. The factory has advanced machinery and automated production lines to ensure precise manufacturing processes and consistent quality control.

REC Solar follows stringent manufacturing standards and quality assurance protocols to deliver reliable, high-performance solar panels.

The company’s panels are known for their high quality and efficiency. REC Solar also offers a 25-year product warranty on its panels.

Ownership

REC is part of the Reliance Industries, India’s largest private sector company, since October 2021.

The acquisition of REC Solar is part of Reliance Industries’ broader strategy to invest in renewable energy. The company has set a goal of becoming net carbon zero by 2035 and has committed to investing $10.1 billion in clean energy over the next three years.

Global Distribution

The company is headquartered in Singapore and has regional hubs in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. REC Solar has a strong global presence, with sales offices and distribution networks spanning Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The company has established partnerships with solar installers, distributors, and developers worldwide, enabling it to reach customers in diverse markets.
